Gig Cancelled on the Isles
of Scilly, Scillonian Club Loses Licence... |
|
Unfortunately
I'm the bearer of bad news today. The gig at the Scillonian
club, St. Mary's, I.O.S. on August 1st has been Cancelled!!
Sad news I know, we where really looking forward to coming
over and I know a lot of people on the island to where also
looking forward to the event.
The
Reason for this late cancellation has come about due to
pressure from the local council with regards to noise, the
issuing of a noise violation order from the Environmental
Health office and consequently the Scillonian Club losing
their Live Music & Entertainment Licence.
Terrible
news for all involved, we can only hope that between the
Scillonian Club and the local authorities a swift compromise
is reached so that live music can return to the club, and
so to can we!!
Lotsa love

So
we made safely around the country on our first tour for
what seems like forever! Thank you so much for everyone
that came out to join us on our strangely sober adventures
and helped to make it amazing.
So here we are back on the dry
land of Cornwall and the studio once more where we are starting
work to finish these new songs. Now I know there's no gigs
coming and we're sorry but it'll be worth the wate I promise
you all. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for the new stuff
on the web... the end is in sight!!!

Chilli Hot Hot News - January 2007 |
Let
The Journey Commence ... |
| It
was typical for sailors in the early days of cross Atlantic
journeys to not sight land for many a long month. To not
speak to anyone other than their own crew for years on end
with nothing but weavle filled tappits for sustenance. If
you can imagine the helplessness that these poor souls felt
trapped in the unsanitary conditions of early 19th century
voyages, if you can picture the same horizons looming over
head day in day out without hope of alteration, if you can
empathise with the sullen crews that undertook these gargantuan
tasks for little more than the cost of their very own pair
of woollen stockings, then you are almost halfway to understanding
exactly what The (HMS) Hitchcock Rules has been up to for
the past few months.
Yes! It’s true. The second
album is coming!
Like a giant galleon of love
heading under full sail to the bay of orgasmo! The Hitchcock
rule’s second album will be out this summer.
It has not been a journey without
trial and turmoil and indeed it is still far from over.
Joe and Dax (the Hitchcock cabin boys) have tried to throw
themselves over board now at least twice a piece, there
were some cannons fired by first mate Dan (the cutter cole)
towards the infamous Captain Robin of stannary during the
battle of “disabled toilet” last month and a
water leak sprang out of nowhere during the other night’s
monsoon but still we’re making headway.
The mice at first aid studios
have heard the tracks so many times now that they are featured
as backing singers. (lets hope those little paws are to
small to fill out their PRS forms.) We have already caged
two of the little fellas who were suspected to be working
for Joe Francis and the Ammunition. (You just can’t
be to carefull.)
Our aim was to demo around forty
tracks to be reduced down to around ten. We have already
put a live recording of “driver for the queen”
and now 'Insider Job' up on myspace for your inspection
and may eventually put up some others but the majority of
the songs will be kept top secret until the release date
is finalised; however every now and again we are sure to
let one loose at a live show.
We are batting a few ideas around
for an album name already, so, if you have a one then send
it in to us along with your name and email address and we
will add it to the white board in the studio (newalbum@thehitchcockrules.co.uk).
If your name wins then we will insert you on the credits
along with the mice and give you anything you want from
the Hitchcock arsenal of merchandise.
We are also taking pre orders
for the album. You don’t need to part with a penny.
The album will cost £10 in the shops but if you sign
up to our e mail list then it will be yours for half price
within the first two weeks of release! Just drop us a line
fans@thehitchcockrules.co.uk
Lots of love from the Hitchcock
crew
Hopefully see you out there on the high seas.
Arrgghhh!

Tour Diary |
Most musicians
will tell you that they have played in bands for as long
as they can remember. Their anecdotes are set in the bars
and café's, the pubs and clubs and of course the
space in between.
The reason musicians
feel like they have played forever is because when they
think of the good times, it's only music that they remember.
If they didn't play a note they were probably humming a
tune.
What follows are
extracts from my diaries around the dates of tours. Interspersed
with the images of one Mr Richy Mulryne's photographic genius.
With all the passion of a war photographer in 'Nam.

After a mini tour
in August, a game of football on Bristol Downs and a month
in the studio writing new material for the second album
it seems that the time is right for a winter on the road.
"Up until now we
have been well looked after by the crowds in the South West,
hopefully the rest of the UK will be as good to us." Says
Guitarist A. J.
The band have sold
over a thousand copies of their twelve track debut album
Issue #1, have played over a hundred dates in the South
West and right now they are putting the finishing touches
to a new album which will hopefully be joining them out
on the road in early spring.
"If you can come
and see us over the winter then please grab your scarf and
gloves and come and say hello."
Also thanks again
to all the venue managers, promoters and student unions
who have been so kind in helping us in putting together
our first tour.

Issue
#1 Review |
Album Launch
review by Georgina Dale
(Music journalist)
Punters
literally came by the bus-load to witness the launch of
Issue#1, the debut album from The Hitchcock Rules at Bunters
last Thursday.
The
venue was heaving, no surprise really as the band had provided
a coach to bring in their loyal contingent. Clever boys!
Having spent the day doing the mandatory "acoustic
set" in Solo Music in Truro, it was refreshing to see
just how much energy this band kicked out on stage.
There's
something about the Hitchcock boys that draws you in; for
some it's that when lead singer Ryan plays the piano he
looks uncannily like Ralph the dog from the Muppets, for
others it's their boundless vanity (every TV screen in the
building beamed slideshows of "arty" band photos
and kittens (!) until they took to the stage), but for most
it's that these guys are genuinely talented...
Issue
#1 has some flaws but they are far outweighed by the genuine
gems on the album. The band's blend of smooth pop with tinges
of rock, soul and, (dare I say it?) jazz, plays like the
soundtrack to dark underground comic books. Starting their
live set with one of the album's standout numbers was a
bold move; "Gangs of the Other
Side" is a fabulous track that deserves to become
the soundtrack to every discerning music fan's summer.
Testament
to the claims that these boys could be the next big media
darlings is to try and remember the last time you saw a
Cornish band play 90% original material and not clear the
pub. Long may the Hitchcocks Rule... |
Prehistoric

Issue
#1 out Now! |
Thanks to everyone
who made it down to Bunter's
Bar.
Bunters Bar in
Truro played host to the Hitchcock rules album release party
on Thursday night. The band played to a capacity crowd and
managed to sell over 200 albums. The album can be purchased
from the internet shop or from all
good independent record shops.
Thanks again to
Chris and his staff, the bus drivers who worked for free
and everyone who turned up to make the whole night a fantastic
event.
